The Promise of the Fifth Sun: Ancestral Journey of Self Discovery represents an accumulation of my personal and professional journey towards a more congruent and actualized existence. Like many Latinos, I have been shaped by the native teachings of my ancestors, particularly my grandmother, whose knowledge of the curative factors found in nature and in Spirit reveal a world of healing and power that represents a rich heritage.
As a clinical and research psychologist, I have also been shaped and influenced by scientific search for health, wellness, and self realization. I invite you to read this book as a synthesis of my experiences. I know that within these pages you will find the answer to the questions you have pondered along your own journey of self discovery.
THE BOOK
The stories and myths we’ve heard about our past, our culture, and our history have formed, consciously and unconsciously, the individuals we are today. The Promise of the Fifth Sun: Ancestral Journey of Self Discovery offers a journey to look at life as an uninterrupted movement from the beginning of time, to our time today and to the future. 
When life is seen as an infinite line from the past, present and future, we recognize that history, culture, spirituality, human experience, and stories from the past shape the person we are today and the generation of tomorrow. All of these elements are deeply ingrained in our psyche and they impact how we think and feel about ourselves and how we relate to others.
In this book, I refer to the ancient teaching of the Aztec ancestors on living a balanced life which entails a quest in finding our place in relation to the universe, the creator, and to others. For people of diverse cultural backgrounds, particularly Mexican Americans, a history of colonization and oppression often result in the integration of a negative and damaging self concept. Tracing back the original myths and stories of the ancestors can give us all a more balanced and integrative lens through which we may view our relationship with self, others, and the very power of creation.
